About Us

Hi! My name is Erica and I’m an aspiring dietician with a passion for holistic health. My background is in Public Health so I’ve always been interested in the ways in which we are able to prevent diseases. My original career trajectory focused on preventing communicable diseases in developing countries. Through my experience working with a non profit organization I realized the link between public health and nutrition. I wholeheartedly believe good nutrition is essential for preventing many of the noncommunicable diseases we see in our country today.

I follow a whole foods plant based diet, though not exclusively. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I often enjoy cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, and pancakes. I enjoy journaling, being outside in nature, and watching The Office.

My role in our team will be administration along with helping to write and edit. I will also focus on recipe and lifestyle content!

Hi, I'm Liyao. I'm a graduate student in Nutrition Science. Because of a personal loss, I‘m always looking for the mystery of health. I chose to study pharmaceutical engineering and I thought I could save lives by making new drugs. However, the more I learned the more I noticed prevention is more important than treatment when it comes to public health. With a strong science and engineering academic background, client service experience, and a passion for a high quality of life, I decided to focus on nutrition science and become a Registered Dietitian.

Every day is a nice start! My morning routine includes coffee with chocolate milk, home exercises, a hot shower, and a bagel with cream cheese. I don’t have a favorite food because I love all of them. My favorite flower is a sunflower. I like dancing, walking and listening to books or podcasts.

In our team, I'm in charge of website operations, video and photo editing, and blog typesetting. Most of my blogs will focus on nutrition science and student life.

Hi, I’m Emily! I’m a graduate student in the field of nutrition and plan to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in English Writing and Journalism from Kalamazoo College in 2013, I moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue food justice work. I came back home to Chicago and worked with kidney transplant patients at the University of Chicago, where I collaborated with a team of dietitians and saw the importance of nutrition expertise in healthcare.

It took a more few years and a close personal loss before I decided to pursue the master’s degree. These collective experiences shape my current interests in nutrition media and clinical nutrition.

I believe food should be a source of nourishment and joy, something that uplifts our physical, social and emotional health. I maintain the philosophy that eating well is simple and straightforward when we listen to our body's needs, eat balanced, and make space for pleasure. When I'm not studying or writing, you can find me eating pie, making homemade greeting cards, and going for scenic bike rides around the city.

My primary role on our team is writing, editing and health outreach. I plan to merge my background in journalism with my studies in nutrition to bring you interesting and timely interviews with dietitians, physicians, nurses, occupational therapists and other health professionals.
